A BRIEF HISTORY OF PRO DEO MC

It all started in a barely-lit, decrepit office of the Basic Ecclesial Community of the University of Southeastern Philippines. The founder, MasterYuri0129, was just relaxing and chatting with an old friend when he noticed that she was playing a game that piqued his interest. That game was called Minecraft, and she was playing it on an Android tablet. He was impressed with what his friend was building on the game that soon enough, he downloaded a cracked PC version of this game. Once he started playing, he instantly got hooked.

At that time, he was also new to a gaming-based social media platform named Discord. A good friend recommended it to him after they were talking about a project named Alamat. Soon enough, he found himself searching for Catholic-based servers on this platform. One of the first servers he joined was what is now known as the Roman Catholicism Discord server. It was there that he met some amazing friends who would soon become prominent players and staff members. Soon, he founded Yuri’s World, which would be renamed to Catholic World MC in order to make it appeal to Catholic gamers who are into Minecraft.

The server’s first ever map was a flat world which contained the first iteration of the Cathedral-Basilica of Saint Uriel, which was then was changed into a mountainous biome. The server was first hosted on the founder’s very own PC via Radmin VPN. The decision to switch to ZeroTier One was made when a player from Australia, going by CrazyBoss7609, expressed his desire to play on the server, but was unable to join due to him playing on an iOS; Radmin VPN, upon further research, doesn’t offer support for Android and iOS. It was then that a plugin called GeyserMC was added, thus allowing cross-play for Java and Bedrock (aka Pocket Edition) players (and in turn, allowing CrazyBoss7609 to finally play).

The Minecraft server continued running using ZeroTier One until the founder made the decision to switch to an online Minecraft server hosting site called Shockbyte, thus allowing the server to run 24/7 and allowing his PC to have some much-needed rest after a year of self-hosting. As the server grew, more plugins and a resource pack were added, improving gameplay and overall enjoyment.

But a series of unfortunate events led to the destruction of the original Catholic World MC, and so the founder decided to start things again from scratch, revamp, and reinvent the server, rebranding it as Pro Deo MC (Special thanks to Kuzi8440 for suggesting this cool and fitting new name).

More recently, the founder has decided to switch hosting servers once more, and has chosen Agila Host to host the Pro Deo MC server because it’s much cheaper yet offers the same quality of service as Shockbyte. As of today, Pro Deo MC continues to provide an avenue for Catholic Minecraft gamers to practice their faith while having good and clean fun at the same time.
